Modigliani and Fedro Art

 For art during Term 1 we will be doing portraits of each other using the styles of Modigliani and Fedro.  The differences between Modigliani and Fedro is that Modigliani uses older colours that are less bright than Fedro's.  I prefer Fedro's style because he is more modern. They are practically the same - except the fact that Fedro is alive and Modigliani isn't. 

First we started off with pastels, using white we did our outlines for where our mouth was going and nose and eyes, etc. Next we started colouring our hair or our eyes. Next we  colour our person and last, but not least, edit the mistakes and hang it up on the wall.

I think that using this style and technique was fun to do and a quite easy alternative to painting portraits; its easy but it's not terrible like all the other shortcuts; its effective and eye catching.

We think that Fedro has been inspired to be a junior Modigliani who I think is an exceptional artist. I think that he will probably make lots of money if he does the right style - hopefully he will be alive to be successful unlike  Picasso and Modigliani. 

Question: How come Picasso and Modigliani didn't manage to live a good life and Leonardo Divinci did?

Harry Potter Fans

  

Here are some Harry Potter activities for you to do.

Now you have taken the test hopefully you're not slytherin.
To become a true Harry Potter you have to have a wand, right, so here is a step by step guide on how to make a Harry Potter wand (paper).
2. Slightly roll your paper starting in the corner
3. Glue the last third of the roll
4. Then continue to roll as you hold the wand tightly and hold with fingers till its dry

Football Fridays

          The whistle blew, the ball was passed, he took a shot and we scored!!

                          As you can see we have a day called football Fridays. The teams are Little Kids vs Big Kids with Mr Mac and sometimes Mr Clearwater being the only adults playing.

We usually start around about 1:00pm and finish at the end of lunch which is around about 1:30 so that's half an hour of football. I enjoy this because it's fun and gets people playing games at lunch instead of sleeping in the classroom like Sean. Also it encourages Alfie to play with us. It's some extra training for us and has also prepared me a little for the football season.

Another thing is it gets other people who haven't been playing football before to start playing because you have to start somewhere. What I think is, kids should try and give this a go at lunch times on Fridays.

Top Team

It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for top team games; so we held a top team event organised by Sport Tasman

We had a terrific day with loud music and 20 exciting challenges to complete. There was a mix of water and dry land activities and, since the day was scorching hot, I think that water activities were the most practical and popular events that most people were wanting to do.

The activities were extremely difficult on your own so, to make it easy and to succeed, you had to have exceptional team work.  The time spent at each challenge was around about 5-10 minutes.

My favourite part about the event was that you had to work as a team to get points and everybody was cheering you and laughing with you, which faded the music away.

At twelve thirty we had lunch and came back to our fun activities. Personally, my top two challenges were the water slide and the wheel barrow race.

At the end of our exquisite day we handed our score cards in, then Hayley and Josie gave out the prizes for first, second and third.

School Triathlon

 MAPUA SCHOOL TRIATHLON 2014

The pressure was on, the humidity was high, 

and 3,2,1 go! 






We started running at a comfortable pace; we ran a brutal 4 laps then a hard  4 laps on our bikes then finished  off with 4 laps in the ice cold pool.

This was a very competitive event for Red,Blue,Green,and Yellow Houses. 

The run was quite steady but once you got to your bike, you were racing to overtake and stay in the lead, puffing your lungs until they went dry. 

Next, we sprinted our hearts out and hopped in the pool, like a fish escaping the fisher and proceeding towards the ocean. Once we were in the water we struggled to get a gasp of air after each stroke. First we were hot, then cold.

Emerging out of the water, we sprinted like there was no tomorrow to finish the race.

MoTEC

Every Thursday at 10:20 am, Rooms 11, 12 and 13 go to MoTEC (Motueka Technology Education Centre). We get to go out to morning tea earlier than everybody else. But do you know what happens once we are off the bus? If not, read on!

We all sit down in a big hall and the MoTEC teachers tell us about what is going to happen. Then we go in our groups to our workrooms.

While the Year 8 students go to the hard materials, the Year 7 students get into groups of about 12 people. Last week, one of the groups made pizza. Another group did some paper work. The third group were bending plastic to make iPod and cellphone stands. My group are in the computer room recording interviews with a partner on Garageband (a computer programme) We get to use microphones of all shapes and sizes. It is very new and exciting.

One time, two students (Max and Zak) were working together and their voices went all
high - pitched when they put their Garageband recording on replay! Everybody giggled.

Before we leave, everybody thanks their teacher, and we walk in single file to the bus. We talk about our day at MoTEC on the way back to school, and we all feel very happy and excited about going again next week.

I wonder what will happen next Thursday at MoTEC?

Room 13's Economic System

Since week 2 of term 1, we have been using an economic system to prepare us for future financial gains and struggles. 

We have to get a job that involves helping in the classroom and earns an income to pay our desk rental and any fines we get. This can be very hard for some people with lower paying jobs. We also get bonuses which is helpful for people who are a little bit low on money.

What I like about this is that it teaches you the value of money, you have to work hard to earn an income and you must use it wisely.  It also exposes people to financial subjects and they may become interested in choosing them for a career.

The worst/best part about the economic system is that the police will fine you if you have a messy desk or for breaking any class or school rules. If you don't have enough money to pay rent you will be evicted and have to sit on the floor with your items - which will make it easier for police to fine you with your messy stuff!  The worst part about any job is, if you're not exceptional or not good at your job you may be sacked and there will be a decrease in your money flow ): You will go bankrupt!

But otherwise this is an amazing way to teach about finance for maths.
